Winston's Wish

Is a charity for all bereaved children. It is now offering a new specialist service for military families, thanks to generous funding from “Help for Heroes”.

The new service will help those children and young people that have been affected by bereavement due to military conflict.

Armed Forces Bereavement Scholarship Scheme

When the present government took office they promised to provide university and further education scholarships for the children of Servicemen and women who have died whilst serving in the HM Armed Forces, and the cause accepted by the Armed Forces Pension Scheme or Armed Forces Compensation Scheme as attributable to service. Date of Death - died after 0001hrs on the 1st January 1990. 

We are please to say the above new scheme has now been launched and applications for scholarships are invited. 

The scholarship is not a free university place but a contribution towards the tuition fees and living costs.

Poppy Calls – Maintenance Service

This scheme has been started by the Royal British Legion, designed to offer help with awkward jobs such as minor repairs or fitting of essential devices such as smoke detectors.

There is no charge made for these services but RBL would welcome donations to the charity.

This service is only available in the following counties so far; Midlands, Cornwall, Derbyshire, Leicestershire/Rutland, Lincolnshire, Lancashire, Northamptonshire, Suffolk, Yorkshire, Cardiff and South Wales. Telephone: 0800 032 0306.
